With the Historical Background and the relationship between Yamada, Iwate and the Netherlands, it was quite natural that the support from Dutch companies and associations are to focus on this area.

Since 1643, people in Yamada and the Netherlands relationship started, and in 1993, Zeist – the city in the Netherlands and Yamada started the cross cultural started, both in Sports and music/art.  Taking this opportunity, people in Yamada gave the name of “Oranda Jima (island)” to the larger island in Yamada Bay.

People who became the member of this Foundation agreed that “Oranda Jima Foundation” is the most appropriate to symbolize the relationship and friendship between Yamada Machi and the Netherlands.
